Edge Lit Paintings
Spending a bit of time thinking about edge lighting paintings. Essentially, my frames include a channel that houses a LED strip with addressable pixels. I would animate flickering candles or an sunrise lighting experience. At the moment I am printing a textured surface that MAY have lights and shadows reacting in fun ways. I expect the individual lights to cast diverging color shadows and highlights across the randomized angular texture.

I am also working on the next iteration of the edge light boxes or frames. The new format will have front and back LEDs illuminating the canvas in the frame but also shooting out light onto the wall through patterned holes on the exterior of the frame. Each combination of interior and exterior facing lights will be controlled separately. The outside facing lights would generate halos and strips of colored light, while the interior LEDs would give a stable warm glow to the painting sitting in the frame.
After coming up with the general idea I did a search to find suppliers. There is a lightbox company that does something similar. The supplier is Blue River Digital.
Another concept that is available on ETSY that is more similar. And one that is an edge light for a plexiglass engraving.
