Discovering My Voice
Sure. I make things most days. New fun things for play, for discovery, for sharing, for ambition, and sometimes by mistake. At the moment I am trying to figure out a voice for myself that relates to really considering myself an artist. Saw a video clip of Tony Pro that was made recently when he was visiting Taos. Also saw that he was hanging out with some locals I know. Realized that I have very similar equipment and had done similar things a long time ago. Pulled out my 5 year old drone and went to a spot near my house to try it out. Ended up with a slightly overexposed version of the clip. Went out the next day with a fully charged drone and the intention to take the drone of auto exposure.
Ended up making this video over the weekend. It has a grand total of 1 view. Pretty average for me. In reality is was 10 minutes of drone time and about 20 minutes of wandering around the bridge.
Happy that I am getting better at cringe content. Really, a good opportunity to understand what works and what doesn’t with this sort of thing. Thursday a student in the Film and Digital Media Arts program asked me to be in the 48 Hour film festival. I let him know that I was thinking about it. This little project that was thrown together in a couple hours is my version of thinking about it.
This all also relates to trying to think of myself as an artist. What benefits to I get when I start to live in a way that self defines me with a range of values, behaviors, habits, intentions? I already have the habits of making. I also have uncomfortable habits around be less focused with those projects.
Anyway, let’s see where things take us.
